Urgh. The camera has officially broken. Urgh.
Urgh because it really makes writing a blog post difficult and Urgh because I feel Urgh for not being able to write a blog post.
So, yesterday, I reasoned with myself that enough was enough and got my bake on. ‘Who needs traditional photography?’ I hear myself cry…. I have a camera on my computer don’t I?!
….and after a very long time holding the computer at ridiculous angles desperately trying to get some good pics, I concluded that yes, I actually do need traditional photography. So, sorry for the lame-o shots, I was getting really frustrated at not being able to post, so you’re just going to have to put up with it!
That means….a new camera…YAY! Our current (dead) one was a wedding present, so it’s lasted 7 years of pretty hard graft.
I’ve been messing around with all the different settings trying to figure out what has gone wrong or if I’ve accidentally tweaked something…and in the process just needed to take some random shots. I was pretty impressed when set to ‘auto’ without any alterations on the camera itself (or post production I might add), this is what came out:
Pretty impressive stuff! But not really how I want to photos to look!
Other shots looked like this:
Yes, that is apparently a photograph. Absolute white out.
On an average day I’m a sucker for taking photos…Jake…wellllll, not so much. Maybe it’s a boy thing? There are very few pictures of me in our photo albums and I feel a bit silly when I have to say ‘please can you take a photo of me and Molly?’. But… I did get him to take a few phone pics the other day…it was so beautiful and I was so frustrated that I couldn’t take any ‘signs of spring’ pictures myself…
So The Great Camera Hunt commenceth… any suggestions? We’re parting with the Samsung NV10 which I have absolutely loved.
Granted, it’s a little outdated, and I know that cameras have come on leaps and bounds in the 7 years since we bought it. I’m looking for something similar in size, something handy to cart around as supposed to needing an extra bag on wheels like so many of the popular models today!
Anyway, want to see some of those lame-o computer camera shots I was talking about? Well, get yourself ready to bake because these beauties are delish! (And toddler friendly too, incase you care…)
Mixed Berry Muffins
Whilst I often refer to British recipes, this is thoroughly American, cups n all! I’ll add conversions in brackets…
1 cup (4 oz)plain all purpose flour
1 cup (4 oz) whole wheat flour
3/4 cup (3 oz) sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup (2 fl oz) oil
4 tablespoons melted butter
3/4 cup (6 fl oz) milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
8 oz frozen berries
Tip: Using frozen berries helps the berries stay in tact when they are added to the mixture. If you have fresh berries, freeze them for about 30 minutes on a baking sheet before adding them to the batter.
Heat oven to 350 degrees (180 celcius).
Sift the dry ingredients together.
Mix in the eggs, oil, butter, milk and vanilla.
Fold in your choice of berries.
Line a cupcake/muffin tray and spoon mixture equally, I managed to make 16.
Bake for approx 30 minutes…maybe less, check them at around 20 minutes
Cool in pan on rack for about 5 minutes, then turn on out on rack to cool.
Devour and enjoy!
Mmm….they truly are scrumptious!
In other news, did anyone watch the first episode of The Great British Sewing Bee last night?
I had such wonderfully high hopes for it and was quite disappointed…perhaps it will get better…? I thought it was a bit boring really, lacked drama and a little bit of imagination. Too much like the format of Bake Off for my liking….come on BBC pull yer socks up!
Grumbling over….off to find the tin of muffins…surprise, surprise! Will be back when new camera is purchased with a whole host of loveliness; baby blankets, custom cushions and preggo clothes to name just a few. Sure you can’t wait! Ha!
See you sooooon. x
